Today, Dr. Monty Lynn spoke about Abilene's population and economic outlook. Joe Alcorta's outstanding summary of each of our meetings appears on our club website. Thanks, Joe.
Program for NEXT WEEK: Betty Hukill will present a program about the Paramount Film Festival (which involves short films and our club is one of the co-sponsors) and she will bring some clips of past winners.
Kim Bosher still needs three volunteers for our booth at the ABILENE STATE SCHOOL HALLOWEEN CARNIVAL on Thursday, Oct. 25. This is not a fund-raising event and there is no admission fee. It is to provide enjoyment to the people at the State School.
Will Dix can still use a few more volunteers to help with WEATHERIZATION DAY on Saturday, Oct. 20. Even if you have no repair type skills, please plan on helping our team as it repairs and fixes up a house belonging to an elderly or disabled Abilenian.
Mark your calendar. On FRIDAY, OCT. 26, our club will meet at noon at the BEEHIVE RESTAURANT at North 5th and Cedar Streets for OCTOBER FEST. Cost is $11.00 per person and we will have a "German-like" meal with accordion and polka music and beverages.
If you are giving the invocation, introducing guests, or leading the singing, please sit at the head table.
The club process for ELECTING NEW DIRECTORS has begun. A nominating committee with Past President MIKE WEBER, chair, and PEGGY MANNING, MARY BETH KILGORE, MIKE SCHWEIKHARD, and PETER FOX has been appointed. Let any committee member know if you are interested in running for club director. Also, let any committee member know if you think some other member of our club would make a good director.
Do you have any old Abilene Rotary Club records (pictures, newspaper articles, copies of the Rotater before 2005, etc.)? We would like to collect these and keep them for posterity.
Our Board of Directors is considering working with the Lions Club which also meets on Fridays at Briarstone in regard to putting out flags on holidays. This is a great money-maker for our Community Service Fund. However, we need about four more Rotarians who would be willing to help put out American flags early in the morning and take them in on seven holidays a year. Please let Turner Cariker or David Stubbeman know if you would be willing to help with this. Remember: SERVICE ABOVE SELF.
District Governor Dave Mason will host a ROTARY FOUNDATION BANQUET on Thursday, Nov. 8 at Hardin-Simmons University. All Rotarians are invited. This will be a great information session for our newer members. Let David Stubbeman know if you and/or your spouse can attend.
ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK: PETER AGNELL. Peter graduated from Cooper High School and Texas Tech University. Peter owns Abilene General Tire on South 1st Street. His father was a member of our club and Peter joined our club in 1989.
