Today, Dr. David Polnick, AISD Superintendent and a native Abilenian spoke to our club. Joe Alcorta’s outstanding summary of each of our meetings appears on our club website. Thanks, Joe.

Program for NEXT WEEK: Florida Light and Power Executives will tell us about wind farms and wind generation.

Congratulations to MIKE WEBER, and SHIRLEY HUNTER, wife of Bob Hunter, who were both awarded a PAUL HARRIS FELLOW certificate and pin today. Their contributions to the Rotary Foundation are sincerely appreciated.

Do not forget EVERY ROTARIAN EVERY YEAR, whereby each Rotarian is asked to give $100.00 every year to the Rotary Foundation (and Rotarians will be awarded a Paul Harris Fellow certificate when their contributions reach $1,000.00). Our club will match, up to $100.00 per year, any contribution to the Rotary Foundation by any of our members, so long as we have funds in our Foundation Account. (Money put in our Birthday Box funds our Foundation Account.) As of today, we have $580.00 in our Foundation Account, so make your contribution before the money runs out!

NEXT FRIDAY at 11 A.M., at Briarstone Manor, Dave Boyll and his committee with conduct a Rotary information meeting. New members JULIE HOFMANN, JENNIFER KENT, BRAD WICKER, and RILEY GRIFFITH are asked to attend this meeting. Former members MYRA DEAN and BETTY HUKILL, who recently rejoined our club are also invited to this meeting. And any other Rotarian who wants to learn more about Rotary is certainly invited to attend this meeting.

Also, please remember that September is ROTARY NEW GENERATIONS MONTH. One thing you can do is bring your children or grandchildren to one of our meetings.

Our club will be participating in WEATHERIZATION DAY on Saturday, Oct. 20. Please plan on helping our team led by WILL DIX as it repairs and fixes up a house belonging to an elderly or disabled Abilenian.

FROM A 1930 ROTARY BROCHURE: "Vocational Service replaces the term "Business Methods’...and refers not merely to the merchandise sold or work done in any business or professional transaction, but also to the giving of due consideration to the needs and circumstances of the one served." Ed Alcorn of the Eastland Rotary Club recently sent us some of these old Rotary brochures.

Today, "Vocational Service" is a description of the opportunity each Rotarian has to represent the dignity and utility of one’s vocation to the other members of the club.

ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK: JIM TREDENNICK. Jim graduated from Abilene Cooper and McMurry University. He is now Executive Director of Goodwill-West Texas. Jim joined our club in January 1986 and was President of our club in 1993-94. He is also a Paul Harris Fellow.

MAKE-UPS: Marty Pothier, Robert Laird, and Ed Brokaw at Abilene Southwest Rotary; Bruce Lampert, C. G. Gray, Turner Cariker, and Myra Dean at Abilene Wednesday Rotary.
