Today, Don Green, Director of Aviation for the City of Abilene spoke to our club. Joe Alcorta’s outstanding summary of each of our meetings appears on our club website. Thanks, Joe.
Program for NEXT WEEK: Rotarian Bill Ehrie will give us a business update.
On Labor Day, September 3, Turner Cariker and his team will be putting out American flags, which raises money for our Community Services Account and from which our club, after Jan. 1, will be making grants to local charities. (Last year, our club awarded grants of over $20,000.00 to local charities.)
KNOW SOMEONE WHO WOULD MAKE A GREAT ROTARIAN? Spread the word and invite someone to become a Rotarian.
Each week, we have Dealing for Dollars. When you buy a ticket, 50 cents goes into the pot and 50 cents goes into the Community Services Account. If your ticket number is drawn, you will have a chance to draw the Ace of Spades and win the pot, which now totals. $337.00.
Public schools will be opening next week and we will soon be starting another year of ROTARY READS! Can you spare 30 minutes a week to encourage a third grader (or any Jane Long Elementary School student) to get excited about reading? Talk to C. G. Gray about doing this SERVICE.
We are working on a new MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY. Be sure and let us know of any changes you may have by completing the questionnaire that have been put on the tables at our meetings the last few weeks.
Have you looked at the Rotary International website lately? Read "About PolioPlus."We have received a letter of resignation from Tim Doty. Tim said that he has changed jobs and cannot now attend our meetings.
We are moving closer to being able to accept credit cards for dues and meals. Raymond Blasingame has donated a credit card machine to the club. Thank you very much, Raymond.
From the January 10, 1930, edition of the Rotater: "Fellowship is fundamental in Rotary and Rotary fellowship can only be practiced and enjoyed when two or more Rotarians get together. Two Rotarians can never be a Rotary club, therefore true Rotary fellowship actually is the fellowship that is experienced at regular Rotary club meetings. There, members learn to know and understand each other and become real friends, interested in and tolerant of each other as real friends usually are."
ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK: MIKE SCHWEIKHARD. Mike graduated from Clyde High School and Abilene Christian University. He is the local manager of Atmos Energy. He joined our club in 1992. He and Carol have a son and a daughter.
