Today, State Representative Susan King is scheduled to speak to us. (David Stubbeman is in New Mexico today, so The Rotater is being prepared before noon, Friday.) Joe Alcorta’s outstanding summary of each of our meetings appears on our club website. Thanks, Joe.

Program for NEXT WEEK: Mike Schweikhard is program chair and he will have an outstanding program for us.

July begins a new ROTARY YEAR, and Rotary International President Wilfrid Wilkinson has selected ROTARY SHARES as our theme for the year. DO ALL YOU CAN TO SHARE ROTARY WITH OTHERS. You can read more about President Wilkinson and his hometown in Canada in the July issue of The Rotarian. You can also read, in the July issue of The Rotarian magazine, about polio and President Franklin Roosevelt’s efforts to obtain relief from polio at the Warm Springs Foundation in southern Georgia.

We had an outstanding Rotary Family Picnic at Frontier Texas! Because of our club’s donation to Frontier Texas, we have received FOUR membership cards to Frontier Texas, which entitles free admission to Frontier Texas! exhibits. If you want to use the membership cards, David Stubbeman has them. Of course, you will need to return the membership cards to David after you use them to see the exhibits.

On August 11, our Rotary District will hold a FOUNDATION AND MEMBERSHIP SEMINAR at the Texas Motor Speedway. This is a great opportunity to exchange ideas about how to increase our membership and to learn how The Rotary Foundation operates.

We understand that Kim Bosher is now out of ICU and feeling much better, although she will be in the hospital a few more days.

We are still working on our system to remind you that you have volunteered to assist with our meetings by leading the singing, giving the invocation, and introducing the guests. Please say YES when you are asked to help.

We would like to re-activate our Four-Way Speech Contest among high school age students. If anyone knows a Speech Teacher at Abilene High School, please let David Stubbeman know.

ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK: MARTIN (MARTY) POTHIER. After working for many years at Keaton Kolor, Marty is now self-employed as a professional photographer. He is leaving soon to take outdoor photos in Colorado. Marty joined our club in 1985 and is a Paul Harris Fellow.

How would you define Rotary? “ROTARY IS AN ORGANIZATION OF BUSINESS AND PROFESSIONAL PERSONS UNITED WORLDWIDE WHO PROVIDE HUMANITARIAN SERVICE, ENCOURAGE HIGH ETHICAL STANDARDS IN ALL VOCATIONS AND HELP BUILD GOODWILL AND PEACE IN THE WORLD. Are you truly a Rotarian?

Club Officers: Bob Test, President; Randy Piersall, President-Elect; Mary Beth Kilgore, Secretary-Treasurer; Directors: Kim Bosher, Kent Brown, Frank Dlugas, Woody Gilliland, Steve Glenn, and Jay Hobbs; Sergeant at Arms, Marty Pothier; Assistant Sergeant at Arms, Will Dix; and Mike Weber (immediate past president)
