Today, Erik Johnson updated us on the proposed new Disc Golf Course and Cal Young Park improvements. Joe Alcorta's outstanding summary of each of our meetings appears on our club website. Thanks, Joe.

NEXT WEEK: We will receive an update on the improvements to Safety City, which is located at Rose Park.

CONGRATULATIONS to ERIK JOHNSON, who was today honored as ROTARIAN OF THE YEAR.

President Randy is off to a great start as our Club President. Attached you will find a list of ASSIGNMENTS that he has made. If you want to help in a certain area, please contact the person on the attached list which is chairing that area of service. Also enclosed is a copy of our club' budget for 2008-2009 and a copy of the Club Calendar. both of which were adopted by the Board of Directors today.

The club is planning an ALL CLUB FAMILY PICNIC for Saturday, August 9, at Cal Young Park. More details will be forthcoming. You can buy tickets to the picnic at the door of our next few meetings at the Abilene Country Club.

The club is planning to issue a MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY with pictures of our members. MARTY POTHIER has volunteered to take pictures of members on AUGUST 15 and 22. If you do not have your picture taken or provide us with a picture, we will feel free to insert any picture we want next to your name.

Would you like to receive the ROTATER by e-mail. Just tell David Stubbeman and be sure he has your current e-mail address.

Be sure and look at the attached picture of the new truck that our club helped buy for HABITAT FOR HUMANITY. We received "Thank You" letters this week from the following 2008 ROTARY GRANT RECIPIENTS: Habitat for Humanity, the Volunteer Weatherization Program, Breakfast on Beech Street, and the Abilene Performing Arts Company. We also received a very nice "Thank You" letter from Alba Lara, one of the Cooper High School students our club sent to Rotary Camp RYLA in Denton, Texas.

July is ROTARY LITERACY MONTH. What can you do this month to help a young person improve his or her reading? Do you know who the President of Rotary International is this year? Look at the banner on the podium next week. Hint: He is from Korea.

If you bring a guest to our club meeting who may be interested in joining, be sure and give him or her one of our Rotary Information packets. David Stubbeman has these packets.
