Our program today was Randy Halstead, with Hope Haven. After Randy spoke, President Mike presented a check for $7,500.00 to Randy for the purchase of a PICK UP for Hope Haven. Turner Cariker and his team will be putting out American Flags Monday, May 28, in recognition of MEMORIAL DAY. MANY THANKS to Turner and his team for doing this great project.
JUNE is ROTARY FELLOWSHIP MONTH. We will have a CLUB PICNIC on June 29 at FRONTIER TEXAS. This is for your entire family. Put this date on your calendar. More details to follow.
Also, on Tuesday, June 19, we will have a joint meeting of the outgoing BOARD OF DIRECTORS and the incoming BOARD OF DIRECTORS at El Chico Mexican Restaurant in the Mall of Abilene. Directors, please put this date on your calendars.
President Elect BOB TEST has been working on committee assignments for his year as President, which begins July 1. Please help with the committee to which you are assigned.
ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK: MIKE MURPHY. Mike was born in Menominee, Michigan. He has a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin and a M.B.A. from Sam Houston State University. He is in charge of Abilene Regional Medical Center. He has been a member (and officer) in at least four other Rotary Clubs. Mike joined our club in 2005. He is married to Jennifer and they have four boys.
Remember to wear RED on Fridays to support our troops. Also, PROPOSE A NEW MEMBER.
We received word this week that The Rotary Foundation has approved our Matching Grant application for cataract and other eye surgery in Vyary County, India. This project started with $500.00 from our club and grew with contributions from individuals, from our Rotary District, and from The Rotary Foundation to over $37,000. Again, this is what Rotary is all about: HELPING PEOPLE. Please continue to donate to The Rotary Foundation by putting money in the Birthday Box and by making donations directly to the Foundation.
