Program for March 30: To be announced.
No club meeting on April 6 (Good Friday).
TASTE OF ABILENE will be here before we know it. Each ROTARIAN PLEASE buy 4 tickets ($30.00 each). You can buy tickets next Friday at club meeting. We are also asking each member to SELL TICKETS to friends or clients. The net proceeds will go to LOCAL CHARITIES selected by our grants committee and approved by our Board of Directors.
One of the earliest members of Rotary in Chicago jumped up in his chair and urged everyone to join him in a song. Group singing soon became a traditional part of each Rotary meeting in the United States. Social singing, however, is seldom found in the Rotary clubs in Europe, South America and Asia. Our club has one table that especially likes to sing.
REMEMBER that the Rotary International Convention will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah, in June. At the convention, you can meet Rotarians from all over the world and see what Rotarians are doing ALL OVER THE WORLD. You can also take a side trip to Las Vegas or several National Parks and scenic sites.
President Mike still has a few of the new ROTARY CLUB OF ABILENE T-SHIRTS. He will sell you one for $8.00. We hope you will buy one and wear it to TASTE OF ABILENE.
ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK: BOB KUYKENDALL. Bob attended Abilene High School, Hardin-Simmons University, and Wayland Baptist College. Before he retired, Bob owned Kuykendall Business Systems. He joined our club in July 1961. Bob is married to Margie and they have two children.
Remember to wear RED on Fridays to support our troops.
You still have time to register for The Rotary DISTRICT CONFERENCE which will be April 20-22 at the Marriot Solana (Westlake) near the TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY. You can register on line at Rotary5790.org. We need to have a good delegation from our club to attend this conference.
The President of ROTARY INTERNATIONAL is Bill Boyd, from New Zealand. At the Convention in Salt Lake City, Wilfrid Wilkinson, from the Rotary Club of Trenton, Ont., Canada, will take office as president of ROTARY INTERNATIONAL. The Rotary theme for next year will be ROTARY SHARES.
MAKE-UPS: Ed Brokaw at E-CLUB ONE (on line). Mike Dickie at Breckenridge Rotary; Tim Doty and Bruce Lampert at Abilene North Rotary, and Bob Hunter and Marty Pothier at Abilene Southwest Rotary.
A wheel has been the symbol of Rotary since our earliest days. In 1923, the present gear wheel with 24 cogs and six spokes was adopted. A group of engineers advised that the gear wheel was mechanically unsound and would not work without a "keyway" in the center, so one was added in 1923.
